RFID Badges enable equipment access management

RFID Badge

Summary

A national wood products company partnered with United Rentals to implement a badge-based equipment access management system, integrating RFID-enabled worker ID badges to enhance safety and optimize fleet utilization during a $700 million mill expansion project.

Challenge

Managing and monitoring equipment access on a jobsite with over 700 workers and 200 pieces of machinery is challenging on its own. Ensuring that only properly trained and certified operators can use specific equipment is even more difficult.

Impact

By implementing a badge-based equipment access management system, the wood products company enhanced jobsite safety by limiting equipment access to trained and certified operators. This also improved fleet utilization by tracking equipment usage and prevented unauthorized use, leading to potential cost savings and optimized resource allocation.
