Sustainability at United Rentals
Sustainability means using resources in a way that meets our current needs without harming future generations’ ability to meet theirs. For us, environmental stewardship plays out day to day: an operating responsibility and a long-term investment in the business, our stakeholders and our communities. That includes a focus on equipment sustainability, pairing operating experience and technology with a fleet of low- and zero-emission options to support customers' own environmental goals.
We're targeting three areas:
- Innovative solutions that help customers meet their environmental goals
- Electric and hybrid fleet investments that reduce customer emissions
- Reducing emissions from our own fleet, buildings and operations
We've set targets to lower greenhouse gas emissions intensity, improve energy efficiency across our operations and divert more waste from landfills while tracking progress with tools like Total Control® and WEDGE.
We’re Committed To Building a Better Future.
Starting With Our Own Company.
GHG Emissions Reduction
United Rentals targets a 35% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity across Scopes 1, 2 and third-party hauling within Scope 3 by 2030.
Lighting Retrofit
United Rentals will complete lighting retrofits across 95% of North American operations by 2025, based on footprint as of June 30, 2022. This figure does not include locations the company may acquire in the future.
Waste Diversion
United Rentals targets diverting 70% of waste from landfills by 2025.
