FAQs About Refrigerated Containers
Refrigerated containers, also called reefers, are insulated shipping containers fitted with a refrigeration unit to maintain a controlled temperature inside. They're used wherever on-site cold storage is needed, including food and beverage storage, catering, pharmaceuticals, agriculture and event hire. United Rentals sells refrigerated containers across Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth and regional locations. Learn more about refrigerated containers in our FAQ section below.
Refrigerated containers are used wherever temperature-controlled storage is needed away from a permanent cool room or freezer. Common applications include food and beverage businesses needing extra cold storage, catering and event operators, agricultural and produce storage, pharmaceutical and laboratory storage, and remote-site projects in mining and construction where workforce catering needs cold storage on site.
Most refrigerated containers can hold temperatures across both chilled and frozen ranges, typically from around -20°C up to ambient. The exact temperature range depends on the container, the refrigeration unit fitted and the ambient conditions on site. Confirm the operating temperature range with our sales team based on what you'll be storing - chilled produce, frozen goods and pharmaceutical applications all have different requirements.
Refrigerated containers are commonly available in 20ft and 40ft sizes, including 40ft high cube units which provide additional internal height for taller pallets or larger storage volumes. The 20ft size suits smaller cold storage needs or sites with limited space, while 40ft units offer the maximum internal capacity. Pick the size based on your storage volume and the available power supply at your site.
