Basic Rigging - Qualified Rigger & Signal Person
This comprehensive training program prepares workers to perform rigging and signaling duties safely and in compliance with OSHA requirements for construction operations involving cranes, derricks, and material handling activities. Participants will learn proper rigging techniques, load control principles, hand and voice signal communication methods, hazard recognition, and their responsibilities as qualified riggers and signal persons.
OSHA requires employers to use qualified riggers during crane assembly and disassembly activities, as well as when employees are working within the fall zone while hooking, unhooking, guiding, or connecting loads. Qualified signal persons are required whenever the crane operator's view of the load path is obstructed, when equipment travel visibility is limited, or when site-specific conditions create additional safety concerns.
Upon successful completion, participants will have the knowledge needed to support safe lifting operations and help maintain compliance with OSHA regulations, including 29 CFR 1926 Subpart H (Materials Handling) and Subpart CC (Cranes and Derricks in Construction).
