Helping a pharmacy chain keep its cool
Summary
The facility services company Watterson was selected as the primary emergency response vendor for a national pharmacy store chain with approximately 11,000 locations, with aging HVAC units at many of them. Watterson, in turn, enlisted United Rentals to provide and install temporary heating and cooling solutions to maintain target temperatures while the rooftop units (RTUs) were repaired or replaced.
Challenge
Each pharmacy location holds, on average, half a million dollars’ worth of medication. If the building’s HVAC system goes down and temperature remains even one degree above or below the specified threshold for more than 24 hours, the medications must be thrown out.
Impact
The Watterson and United Rentals’ responsiveness and use of Total Control® ensured quick deployment, efficient management and cost savings, preventing the loss of hundreds of thousands of dollars in temperature-sensitive medications due to HVAC system failures.
