Water Treatment

Water Treatment: Sediment, Filtration & Dosing Solutions

Contact our support team for any questions

United Rentals provides engineered water treatment solutions to test, treat and manage sediment, turbidity and contaminants from dewatering and bypass systems before discharge. We start by assessing your site's water quality against your discharge requirements, then recommend the right combination of clarification, filtration or dosing to meet compliance requirements.

Our fleet includes sediment tanks, clarification systems and chemical dosing units, supported by our in-house engineering team and remote telemetry monitoring.

  • Water quality testing and assessment against discharge requirements
  • Sediment and turbidity clarification for dewatering and bypass discharge water
  • Media filtration for a range of contaminants, including activated carbon, sand and ion exchange resin
  • Chemical dosing systems for flocculation and treatment
  • Sediment tanks for storage and settling across multiple feed locations
  • Remote telemetry monitoring of treatment performance
  • Engineered design support to help meet discharge requirements

Discharging untreated water from an excavation, basement or sewer bypass can breach your discharge licence or trade waste agreement, risking delays, fines or a stop-work notice. Our teams assess your site's water quality and design a treatment system that gets it within limits before it leaves site.

Services

Water Quality Testing & Assessment

Our team tests your site's water against your discharge licence or trade waste requirements before recommending a treatment method, so you're not paying for equipment you don't need.

Sediment & Turbidity Clarification

Our Lamella clarification tanks treat total suspended solids and turbidity, with a sludge settling hopper for gravity thickening and removal.

Media Filtration

Our Kraken media filters can be loaded with activated carbon, sand, glass or ion exchange resin, selected to suit the contaminants present in your site water.

Chemical Dosing

Our dosing pods provide chemical dosing for flocculation and treatment, with PLC-based controls and no chemical storage inside the pod for site safety.

Sediment Storage & Settling

Our sediment tanks provide stackable storage and settling capacity across multiple feed locations, including support for managing vac truck load cycles.

Telemetry & Remote Monitoring

Treatment systems can be fitted with remote telemetry, giving your team visibility of performance without needing constant site presence.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you know what treatment method I need?

We test your site water first. The result tells us whether you need clarification for sediment, filtration for specific contaminants, dosing to improve settling, or a combination, rather than defaulting to a standard package.

Do I need to treat dewatering or bypass water before discharge?

In most cases, yes. Discharging to stormwater or sewer without treatment can breach your discharge licence or trade waste agreement. Our team assesses your site's water quality against your discharge requirements before recommending a system.

What's the difference between discharging to stormwater and discharging to sewer?

Stormwater discharge is typically governed by an EPA licence or council conditions, while discharge to sewer usually requires a trade waste agreement with your local water authority. Requirements differ by state and by site, so we assess this on a project-by-project basis.

Can you provide the treatment system as well as the pump?

Yes, our sediment tanks, clarification systems and dosing units are designed to work alongside our pump and pipeline fleet, so treatment and pumping can be supplied as one system.

How is silty or turbid water treated on site?

We generally use clarification tanks to settle out solids, sometimes supported by chemical dosing to improve settling, before passing the water through media filtration if further polishing is required.

Do you handle water from sewer bypass systems as well as dewatering?

Yes, our treatment systems can be applied to water from both ground dewatering and sewer bypass operations, though the treatment approach depends on the contaminants present.

How much does water treatment hire cost?

Cost depends on the treatment method required, flow rate, hire duration and whether dosing or filtration is included. Contact us with your site's water quality and discharge requirements for a tailored quote.

Can treatment systems be monitored remotely?

Yes, our telemetry systems allow remote tracking of treatment performance, reducing the need for constant on-site monitoring.
