Explosive Ordnance (EO) Storage Containers
We design and build insulated explosive ordnance storage containers for defence. When ordnance has to be stored safely for the medium term, the container has to do several things at once: hold a stable internal temperature, meet strict lightning-protection standards, and give safe access for loading and handling. We build all of that into a certified, ISO-format unit.
A delivered project was 37 custom-built 20ft insulated EO containers for defence, compliant with AS/NZS 1768 lightning protection. Each had 50mm Bondor insulated panels, a light-coloured internal wood lining, side-opening doors engineered to support their own weight during loading, full electrical bonding, and temperature monitoring. All 37 were delivered on time, on budget, across three states.
- Insulated EO storage built to AS/NZS 1768 lightning protection
- 50mm Bondor insulated panels (R-Value 1.2) for temperature stability
- Side-opening, self-supporting doors for safe loading and handling
- Full electrical bonding, dual earthing, and temperature monitoring
Services
Compliant EO Engineering
We design and manufacture EO storage to the standards defence ordnance is held to, including AS/NZS 1768 lightning protection. Each container is built with full electrical bonding of floors and panels, dual earthing points on opposite corners, and lightning protection connections to approved specification, achieving less than 10 ohm DC resistance when connected to earth electrodes.
Temperature-Stable Storage
Storing sensitive ordnance means holding stable internal conditions. We line the containers with 50mm Bondor insulated panels (R-Value 1.2) and a light-coloured internal wood lining, and fit waterproof whirlybirds for ventilation. A single-point temperature monitoring system reads out on an external LCD logger, so conditions can be checked without opening the unit.
Safe Access & Handling
Full-width side-opening doors are engineered to safely support their own weight during loading and unloading, giving wide, safe access for EO handling. The durable internal lining stands up to long-term operational use in demanding defence environments.
Delivery at Scale
The delivered program was 37 units, built and delivered within a strict 75-day schedule across three states, to the Jennings EO Depot in NSW. It’s an example of building compliant, certified ordnance storage at volume without compromising on compliance, safety, or schedule.

Case Study: Explosive Storage (EO) Containers
Defence required 37 fully compliant 20ft side-loading ISO containers for medium-term storage of explosive ordnance, built to AS/NZS 1768 lightning protection while holding stable internal conditions, with safe EO access and temperature monitoring throughout. All units had to reach the Jennings EO Depot in NSW within a tight 75-day window, with no compromise on compliance, safety, or certification. Our in-house engineering team designed and manufactured all 37, each with 50mm Bondor panels, light internal wood lining, self-supporting side doors, full electrical bonding, and external LCD temperature logging, delivered on time, on budget, across three states.
Explosive Ordnance (EO) Storage Containers FAQs
An explosive ordnance store for defence focuses on medium-term, temperature-stable storage with strict lightning protection (AS/NZS 1768), electrical bonding, and earthing. That’s a different requirement from a mining blasting magazine (built to AS2187.1) or marine dangerous goods storage (built to IMDG and DNV). We build all three; this page covers the defence EO build.
Each container is fitted with lightning protection connections to approved specification, dual earthing points on opposite corners, and fully bonded steel floors and panels, achieving less than 10 ohm DC resistance when connected to earth electrodes.
The containers are lined with 50mm Bondor insulated panels (R-Value 1.2) and a light-coloured internal wood lining, with waterproof whirlybirds for ventilation and a temperature monitoring system that reads out on an external LCD logger, so conditions stay stable and can be checked without opening the unit.
