Class 1 Ammunition Storage
We design and build dangerous goods containers for the demands of marine and defence operations. Built to move and store Class 1 explosives on naval and commercial vessels, they fit directly onto the vessel and keep the storage under your control, so you’re not relying on a third-party logistics provider to handle hazardous product.
Each container starts as a DNV-certified refrigerated unit and is configured for the Australian and New Zealand rules on moving Class 1 explosives. They’re engineered for high-vibration, saltwater conditions and integrate directly with the ship’s power, monitoring, and fire systems.
- Certified to IMDG code and DNV-ST-E271 / 2.7-1 offshore container standards
- Fit straight onto the vessel: power, monitoring, securing, and fire systems
- Refrigerated, marine-grade, and built to resist saltwater and vibration
- Modular and portable, so they move between vessels
Services
Marine & Defence Engineering
We design dangerous goods storage for marine and defence work, starting from DNV-certified refrigerated containers built for vessel use. Each one is configured to meet the Australian and New Zealand rules for moving Class 1 explosives.
We reinforce the structure, use marine-grade materials, and finish every unit to resist corrosion, so it holds up in the high-vibration, saltwater conditions these jobs put it through.
Vessel Integration
The containers integrate directly with the vessel. They run off the ship’s power, connect to its IPMS monitoring, lock onto its securing points, and link to its fire systems, so the storage works as part of the ship rather than being outsourced to a logistics provider. There’s no IoT or tracking on board, in line with defence security requirements.
Safety & Fire Systems
Fire safety is built into every unit. EX-rated smoke and heat detectors tie into the ship’s IPMS, and inside there’s a fire-suppression spray system with anti-sabotage mesh and a bronze connection straight to the ship’s fire main. All metal components are electrically bonded, a dual drainage system runs to lockable external valves, and the internal tie-down points are rated to 1000kg each.
Environmental Control
The refrigeration runs on a non-flammable, non-toxic refrigerant and holds the internal temperature between -10°C and +20°C, keeping Class 1 product stored safely whatever the conditions outside.

Case Study: Class 1 Ammunition Storage
A defence customer needed a safe, compliant way to move and store Class 1 explosives on naval and commercial vessels, without depending on a third-party logistics provider. We built it to IMDG code, defence hazardous goods standards, and naval fire and electrical regulations: a fleet of containers on DNV-certified refrigerated platforms, configured for direct vessel integration and engineered to withstand harsh maritime conditions.
Defence & Marine Dangerous Goods Storage FAQs
They’re certified to IMDG code and DNV-ST-E271 / 2.7-1 offshore container standards, plus defence fire and electrical compliance, and set up for the Australian and New Zealand rules on moving Class 1 explosives.
Yes. They’re built to integrate directly with the vessel: running off its power, connecting to its IPMS monitoring, locking onto its securing points, and linking to its fire systems. The storage works as part of the ship rather than sitting alongside it as a separate system.
We reinforce the structure, use marine-grade materials, and finish every unit to resist corrosion, so it holds up in high-vibration, saltwater conditions. The built-in refrigeration holds a steady internal temperature to keep Class 1 product stored safely in transit.
Yes. Each container is modular and portable, on a standard ISO 20ft footprint with twist-lock securing, so you can move it between vessels as your operations change.
